  • Annual conference theme for 2005 was “This Is My Home — Ensuring Human Rights for All.”
  • League maintained a website link with the Human Rights Center.
  • LMHRC board members participated in training session for Mille Lacs Area Human Rights Commissioners in January and June.
  • LMHRC board members participated in chartering ceremony for the new Mille Lacs Area Human Rights Commission.
  • LMHRC board member presented “Teaching for diversity and strategies for damage control” for Forest Lake teachers.
  • Co-sponsored with the Minnesota State Patrol workshops with the theme “Fostering Police-Community Relations Understanding.”
  • Participated with Somali and other immigrant communities in workshops on various issues of concern such as “Religion in the Workplace: How Somalis, Other Muslims and Businesses Have Dealt with this Issue.”
  • Supported the Minnesota Department of Human Rights “Educate to Eliminate” Campaign, including This Is My Home Schools Tool Kit, Public Service Announcements, and Human Rights Public Forum on Protected Classes. Workshops included “Education for Rights” ( Rochester), “Race, Nationality and Ethnicity” ( Grand Rapids).
  • Participated in a Visioning and Strategic Planning Session.
  • Increased communication through bi-monthly newsletters.
  • Developed a Distribution E-list for Human Rights Commissions throughout the State.
  • A seventh annual Essay Contest was conducted with award ceremonies in Richfield.
  • A new Essay topic was posted on the Web for the 2006 contest:

    Describe how you see these behaviors in your daily life and how they are related to each other—

    Stereotyping Prejudice Discrimination

    What can you and others do to combat these actions? Give examples that you have experienced or heard about.

    Include the Bill of Rights of the U.S. Constitution, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Minnesota Human Rights Act in your thinking about these problems.
  • Assisted Human Rights Commissions where hate crime and hate incidents occurred.
  • Awarded three human rights awards:

    Mille Lacs Area Human Rights Commission
    Frank Sloan, for work with immigrants
    Shoreview Human Rights Commission
