This is My Home: A MN Human Rights Education Experience
  • Annual LMHRC Annual Conference "From Inspiration to Action" was held onOctober 9, 2004
  • League maintained a website link with the Human Rights Center.
  • The REHaB (Reducing and Eliminating   Hate Behavior) program continued, with meetings, presentations and involvement in cases in Anoka and requests from several schools in the suburbs of Minneapolis.  A presentation called “Stop the Hate” was made at the National Association of School Financial Officers held in Minneapolis.
  • LMHRC joined with Minneapolis Hate Crimes Education and  Prevention Network to re-energize efforts in this work.
  • HRCs reactivated in Anoka and launched in Grand Rapids.
  • League board members participated in 2 days of training to become facilitators for the YWCA “It’s  Time to Talk” forums on race. Additional members took part in a general “It’s Time to Talk” session earlier in the year.
  • League board members worked at several Capacity Building retreats conducted by the Horizon facilitators. The group developed a work plan following these retreats.
  • A sixth annual Essay Contest was conducted with award ceremonies in Roseville.
  • A new Essay Guidebook was posted on the Web for the 2005 contest.
  • The League supported the Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride September 30 — October 4.
  • The League is in support of the Human Rights Curriculum   prepared by the Human Rights Center and sponsored by the Minnesota Department of Human Rights.

Sample Individual Member Commission accomplishments:

  • Hopkins 2004 Essay Contest winners are Rachel Calvert, Riley Beggin, and Andrew Lentz.
  • 2004 Hopkins Heritage Celebration was Saturday, June 5. The Hopkins Center for the Arts joined the Celebration along with many local vendors and performers. The event provided entertainment, food, and activities from various cultures around the world. The Heritage Celebration is a FREE annual event.   • Morris 2004 Essay Contest Winners were Alexandra Kopel, Olivia Pilarski, and Mary Rentz.
  • Plymouth Commissioner Ruffin presented the City of Plymouth Bias/Hate Crime and Bias Incident Response Plan at the May 20 forum. Police Chief Goldstein reviewed the Bias/Hate Crime and Bias Incident Response Plan to address the plan with his department.
