About the Indigenous Peoples’ Human Rights Initiative
The Indigenous Peoples’ Human Rights Initiative is a collaboration
of the International Indian Treaty Council and the University
of Minnesota Human Rights Center, working to:
- Build Global Advocacy Networks
and Mentorship Opportunities grounded in understanding the
accomplishments Indigenous Peoples have
made through the United Nations systems and other international
fora,
such as the Working Group on Indigenous Populations and
the Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues.
- Mentor Young Activists to understand Indigenous Peoples’ Human
Rights and to learn effective advocacy and organizing skills;
- Train activists, professionals, and youth as Human Rights
Educators and Leaders;
- Create and distribute Indigenous Peoples’ human
rights resources via electronic, print media, and multi-media,
including a Young
Activists’ Handbook and Other Resources;
- Work in Partnership
with Schools and Community-Based Organizations to encourage
effective practices in human rights education;
