Description of functions

Miner, Barnhill & Galland is accepting applications for 2006 summer associate positions with the firm. We are a small, collegial, high-quality law firm with 15 lawyers in offices in Chicago, Illinois and Madison, Wisconsin. Our litigation practice is known for representing plaintiffs in large-scale, high-profile class actions and multi-plaintiff cases brought under the federal employment laws. We also represent individual consumers and organizational plaintiffs in class action lawsuits challenging predatory lending practices. We currently represent a number of states in litigation asserting fraud and consumer protection claims against most of the major pharmaceutical manufacturers. In recent years, we have developed an expertise in representing whistleblowers in the litigation of "qui tam" cases under the federal False Claims Act. We have an active docket of wage and hour cases in California, particularly representing migrant farm workers and packinghouse employees. In addition, we have a significant medical malpractice defense practice, representing major Chicago hospitals and clinics. Our transactional group has a wide and varied practice focused on community development and affordable housing, including providing legal services in the areas of real estate, financing, corporations, and partnerships to non-profit organizations, community development corporations, neighborhood health centers, and for-profit clients.
